The bread and butter: something has stopped working, or worse, something has started working intermittently. We trace the fault back to its cause rather than swapping a breaker and hoping — nuisance tripping, dead ring finals, scorched accessories, failed showers, lights that dim when the kettle goes on. Small repairs get done on the visit wherever we can, and you'll be told what caused it in plain English.

The single best safety upgrade most Kent houses can have. Rewireable fuses and plastic boards come out; a modern consumer unit with RCD or RCBO protection goes in, with main protective bonding and earthing checked and put right at the same time — the part that gets forgotten. Every way is labelled, the installation is tested, and you get the certificate rather than a promise of one.

Complete and partial rewires for houses wired for a different century — more circuits, more sockets, modern cable throughout and everything run in the safe zones so the next person to put a picture up doesn't find a cable the hard way. We work room by room where you're still living in the property, and coordinate with builders and kitchen fitters where you're not. Tested and certified on completion.

A free-standing cooker, a built-in oven and induction hob, or a range that wants considerably more than the old supply was ever asked for. We check what the existing circuit and consumer unit can actually take before we quote, run a new dedicated circuit and cooker control unit where it's needed, and leave the connection accessible for whoever services the appliance later.

Double sockets, USB outlets, outdoor sockets, sockets behind the TV that don't need a four-way trailing off the hall. New lighting points, extra switching, two-way switching at the top and bottom of stairs, and dedicated circuits for home offices, garden rooms and loft conversions. Cables chased and made good rather than left for you to fill in.

Battery alarms get taken down when the toast burns and never go back up. We install mains-powered, interlinked smoke and heat detection so one alarm sets the rest off, positioned where the layout of the house actually calls for it — landing, hallway, kitchen heat detector — and tested before we leave. Landlords get a clear record of what's fitted where.

Wall lights, step and path lighting, spike lights through borders, and PIR security lighting that comes on for people rather than for every cat in Kent. Outdoor circuits get the right IP-rated fittings, weatherproof glands and RCD protection, with armoured cable run to sheds, garden rooms and garages where the supply needs to travel.

Electric heating installation where there's no gas, where a single room is always cold, or where an ancient storage system is costing more than it warms. We look at the supply and the consumer unit first, install the heating and its controls on a properly sized circuit, and set up the programming so it runs on the tariff you're actually on rather than on the factory default.

Smart lighting and switching, app and voice control, scenes for the rooms you actually use them in, and heating controls that talk to the rest of it. The important bit is the wiring behind it: neutrals at the switch positions, sensible circuit design, and a manual way to turn the lights on when the hub is having a bad day.

TV points in the rooms that want them, multi-room audio cabled rather than bounced over a congested network, and Cat6 data runs to the office, the TV and the wi-fi access points so the far end of the house stops dropping out. Cables run and terminated neatly, patched into a tidy position, and labelled so it can be worked on again later.
